iilp_bThree students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology have developed a firefighting robot named ‘Firecop’ which could be handled by remote control system.
Sourav Sarker and Mustafa Muhibullah, fourth year students of mechanical engineering and Md Sharif Ahmed of electrical and electronic engineering department developed the robot under the supervision of Md Rokunuzzaman, associate professor of mechanical engineering department at the university.
The students at a news conference at RUET cafeteria demonstrated their creation on Saturday.
It is the first instance of developing a robot that can take control of any fire incident easily through remote operator from distance, they claimed.
Anyone can operate the robot through remote controlling system which is the main characteristics of the robot, said Sourav Sarker.
They were also planning to put closed circuit cameras on the robot so that the movement, position and circumstances around the robot could be detected from remote places,’ said Mustafa Muhibullah.
The existing firefighting robots douse flame by throwing water but it will do the same with spraying carbon dioxide, Sharif Ahmed said.
The robot is made of fireproof materials that allows it to work reaching close to the flames its operating system is so easy that anyone can operate it easily, Sharif added.
The students are working on making the robot able to climb up stairs of any building and reach at the roof, Md Rokunuzzaman, the supervisor of the project informed.
Md Rokunuzzaman urged the government and private manufacturing companies to come forth to invest to ensure the economic exploration of the robot
